Terms and Conditions

Thanks for you interest in a Worlds of Light adventure.  Please familiarize yourself with our Terms and Conditions of Travel. If you have any questions, please let us know before you apply for a program.

A program deposit is required to hold your space on a Worlds of Light program. Each trip description specifies the program deposit amount required and indicates the date by which the deposit must be received. Each trip description also specifies when the full program balance must be received. The program deposit is typically non-refundable unless Worlds of Light cancels the program (see Cancelled Trips below).

As part of the reservation process, participants will be sent Participant Information and Health Forms that must be completed and submitted by the Program Deposit due date.

Program Fees Include:

• All accommodations in Guatemala

• All meals while in Guatemala

• All entrance fees, activity fees, and equipment rentals

• All instructor and guide fees

• All service project materials

• Donations to organizations in Guatemala

Certain programs may have additional items included in the program fee.

Program fee does not include: Personal expenses such as the cost of renewing or obtaining a passport, medical fees, health and travel insurance, extra baggage fees, phone calls, email, alcoholic beverages (available on adult trips), spa services, laundry, meals and activities not taken with the group, etc.

The stated itinerary accurately describes the intention of the program and serves to guide the flow of activities throughout the trip. However, it can be assumed that Worlds of Light will revise the schedule to meet the needs of the group, the needs of the local communities, the weather, and other changing conditions.

Each program description indicates whether the cost of international airfare is included in the price of the trip. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. We have no control over airline schedule changes and accept no liability for costs which may arise as a result of those changes. Under no circumstances is Worlds of Light responsible for flight cancellation fees.

The program deposit is non-refundable except in cases when Worlds of Light must cancel a trip (see Cancelled Trips below). If a participant departs early from a trip no matter what the circumstances, they will not receive a refund (see Rules and Expectations).  If you decide to withdraw from a program after the first program payment due date, you will forfeit your entire program fee paid to date.  If you cancel your attendance in the program, you may be entitled to a partial refund from your insurer if the reason for your cancellation is covered under the terms of your travel insurance policy. Please review the program description for your trip to learn about additional cancellation and refund policies that might govern your trip.

It is the responsibility of the participant to understand the limitations of their medical and evacuation policy, and pay upfront for emergency services when required.  When it is not possible or feasible to prepay for medical services, you understand that any reimbursements paid under your Travel Protection Plan would be refunded to Worlds of Light for any medical services costs prepaid by Worlds of Light on your behalf.

It is expected that those who travel with Worlds of Light have a strong desire to act respectfully and responsibly in all situations and are eager to explore the world in safe and healthy ways. If a participant acts in ways that are detrimental to himself or herself, to other participants, or to the people of the host country, or generally conducts himself or herself in a manner that disrupts normal program activities, Worlds of Light reserves the right to dismiss the participant without a refund. Participants who return home early, whether due to dismissal, sickness, personal emergency or personal choice will not receive a refund and will be required to pay all medical and travel expenses associated with their early departure.

Worlds of Light reserves the right to cancel any trip if there are insufficient registrations. A full refund will be granted for canceled trips due to insufficient registrations, though Worlds of Light is not responsible for other costs incurred by participants preparing for the trip.  If a trip is canceled by Worlds of Light due to any other event that is beyond our control (war, natural disaster, political upheaval, etc.), Worlds of Light cannot guarantee a refund—the refund, if any, will be dependent on the refunds we are able to secure from our community partners and our vendors.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the information on your travel documents is correct and that you have the proper documents required for travel.  Participants must have a passport that is valid for six months after the trip departure date. Participants who are not US citizens are responsible for obtaining any additional travel documents required for their travel.

Each program provides opportunities for physical challenge in the natural world, and Worlds of Light recommends that all participants be in good physical and mental health and have medical approval to travel. Participants are required to complete a Health Form that accurately and completely discloses the status of their physical and mental well-being. If a medical situation arises, Worlds of Light will attempt to seek medical treatment; however, we hold no liability regarding provision of medical services. Participants are encouraged to research whether their insurance coverage is adequate outside of the United States, or to purchase international travel health insurance. Worlds of Light offers a limited evacuation policy to each participant as part of their program fee.

You (and your parent/s or legal guardian if you are a minor) give consent for any photographs or audio/video recordings of you and your work, taken during your participation on a Worlds of Light trip, to be used for any publicity or promotional materials, both online and in print.

Worlds of Light acts only as an agent in securing accommodations, transportation, sightseeing, and other travel services and in no event shall Worlds of Light be liable or responsible for any acts of omission by any third party, including but not limited to third party contractors, suppliers and vendors who render services in connection to the program.

Participants (or the parents or legal guardians of participants under the age of 18) will be required to read and sign a “Release of Liability and Assumption of Risk and Indemnification Agreement” before participating in a Worlds of Light program.

If you are thinking about it, you are in good hands with Kristin. Do it!"
